4 Reasons To Drink Green Juices

Will the lunchbox soon be replaced by a hip cup with a green drink in it ?! It will not go that fast, but the green smoothies are becoming more famous. There are even cafes where you can already buy them. Until recently I threw all the greenish drinks in one heap, but a green smoothie really turns out to be something different than a vegetable juice. I will explain that below so that you will be well prepared when the fresh leafy vegetables come out of the garden again! What does apply to both is that it is an ideal way to easily get more vegetables. And that is exactly what we need.

1. More vegetables

We need more and more vegetables to get our required nutrients. We owe this to intensive agriculture, greenhouse plants, monocultures and the use of fertilizer. As a result, there are fewer and fewer nutrients in the soil. And also less and less in our vegetables. In 1980 we needed 2-3 servings of fruit and vegetables to meet our daily requirement for micronutrients, vitamins, minerals and trace elements, but that should have been at least 10-13 servings.

2. Alkaline

Green vegetable juices are alkalizing for the body. This is important because most people have an environment that is too acidic. To stay healthy, a slightly alkaline environment of 7.36 to 7.45 is optimal. An ideal diet should therefore consist of 75 - 80% alkaline foods. Alkaline foods are: vegetables, fruit (even citrus fruits eventually leave a basic residue in your body) and seaweed. Acidifying food includes sugar, meat, eggs, grains, fish, dairy products, coffee, unripe fruit and alcohol. Cooking food also makes it less alkaline. A more alkaline environment helps the body to heal more quickly through diseases such as cell renewal.

3. Chlorophyll

Green vegetables are full of chlorophyll (this gives these vegetables the green color). Chlorophyl is seen as one of the best natural medicines. It produces a climate that suppresses bacterial growth in the body and neutralizes toxins (Source: Hippocrates Health Institute). Chlorophyll has a similar structure to our red blood cells. Chlorophyll helps your body to purify your blood and produce new red blood cells. It also helps to detox your liver and clean up your intestinal tract. Chlorophyll can even prevent your body from absorbing toxins. In addition to wheat grass, parsley is also a super source of chlorophyll.

4. Pre-digested

Both for vegetable juices and for green smoothies it holds that the nutrients from the vegetables are much easier to absorb because it has already been pre-digested. The body usually only absorbs a part of all the nutrients in your food. Certainly if our digestive system does not function optimally . And to properly digest fiber, your digestive system must work well. Vegetable juices are therefore certainly interesting for people who have problems with their digestive system.

But also for the green smoothies, the vegetables are already pre-digested by grinding in the blender. The cell walls of leafy green have a high cellulose content and are therefore relatively difficult to break down. The natural ways to break the cell walls are by chewing very well and then by the action of the stomach acid. In general, we do not chew much and too little. In addition, most people have too low a stomach acid content, which hinders the digestion of leafy vegetables
